Week 1 WisSports.net Coaches Poll

Please note, divisional placement in our poll is based on our Enrollment Projections done earlier this year. Divisional placement in the WIAA playoffs is not determined until after the season and these projections can and will be different than the divisions at the end of the year.

Division 1

Arrowhead opened last year #1 in the poll, went unbeaten, and dominated to a D1 title. Not surprisingly the Warhawks are the top pick in the opening Division 1 Coaches Poll of the season. Last year's runner-up Sun Prairie is second. Franklin's strong opening win over Sussex Hamilton pushed them to the #3 spot, followed by Bay Port and Mukwonago.

Division 2

Defending champion Homestead is projected to land in D2 once again, and they open the season #1 according to the coaches. Kimberly is projected to slide to Division 2 this season as well and are 2nd this week, followed by Brookfield Central. A solid win over Brookfield East finds Waukesha West in the #4 spot followed by Greendale. Waunakee started the way it ended last year, with a loss. After going down to Madison Edgewood in Week 1, the Warriors are tenuously in the poll at #10.

Division 3

The top of Division 3 is very strong, but defending champion Catholic Memorial gets the nod out of the gates. West De Pere saw their two-year reign atop the division ended last year but they are a strong contender to start another streak, opening at #2. Wisconsin Lutheran won on the scoreboard 40-30 over Marquette in Week 1, but late this afternoon word came from the WIAA that the Vikings would be forced to forfeit. Coaches had already submitted ballots that place them at #3 and it will be interesting to see how they vote next week. Badger-South foes Monona Grove and Madison Edgewood, fresh off a big win over Waunakee, close out the top five.

Division 4

Big Foot and Somerset tied for the most #1 votes in Division 4, but Big Foot got a slight edge in overall points. The teams met in last year's epic D4 title game, where Somerset won in overtime. Lodi posted a dominating Week 1 win over McFarland and starts at #3, followed by Little Chute and Platteville in the top five.

Division 5

As they did in last year's state title game, Amherst gets the edge over Lancaster for the top spot in the Division 5 Coaches Poll. A deep division also includes Stanley-Boyd at #3 followed by Cedar Grove-Belgium and Brillion. Bloomer lost in overtime to defending D4 champion Somerset and start the year #9 in the D5 rankings.

Division 6

Not surprisingly, Saint Mary's Springs is the top choice in the inaugural 2013 rankings, with Edgar close behind. Shiocton is third followed by last year's runner-up Regis and Cuba City. Darlington lost in Week 1 to D4 #5 Platteville but still got love from the coaches in the #10 spot.

Division 7

Glenwood City won the Division 7 title last season and opened with a dominating win in 2013 to earn the top spot in the first Coaches Poll of the year. Things were pretty jumbled after that, with several different teams receiving at least one vote in the top three. Lake Country Lutheran opens in the #2 spot, followed by Potosi. Bangor almost certainly will drop down from D6 to D7 this year and starts the year at #4, followed by Catholic Central, who actually lost in Week 1 to larger Kewaunee.
