Jesse Collins of Delavan-Darien has been selected as the Week 1 WSN Player of the Week following a statewide vote on WisSports.net. Collins was part of a wild 70-52 win over East Troy that featured several performances for the record books. He was chosen from a strong group of nominees in Week 1. A total of 2859 votes were cast as Collins' 997 votes edged Franklin's Sean McGuire, who finished with 737.
Collins started several games at quarterback for the Comets last year but didn't post any numbers that suggested what he would do in the season-opening 70-52 win over East Troy on Friday. In a wild and crazy shootout that is the second-highest scoring game in state history, he completed 6 of 18 passes for 143 yards and 2 touchdowns. He did more damage on the ground though, rushing 20 times for 219 yards and 7 touchdowns.
Remember folks, the only way your favorite player can be named WSN Player of the Week is to vote and share the word. Look for the Week 2 nominees to be posted Monday afternoon.
