WisSports.net Week 3 Team of the Week Nominees:

Ellsworth - The Panthers opened the season with a pair of solid non-conference victories, but had a chance to make a splash in the Middle Border Conference race with a game against defending league champion Durand. Scoreless through the first quarter, Ellsworth went up 14-8 at halftime before pulling away for a 29-8 victory. No individual stats have been reported for the game.

Fall River - The Randolph football team had not lost a conference game since September 11th, 2009 (12-7 defeat to Rio), a streak spanning 25 games, and hadn't lost to Fall River since 1977. Both streaks came to an end Friday however as Fall River dominated to a 50-20 Trailways-Small victory. The Pirates led 16-0 early in the 2nd quarter but saw their lead sit at just 28-20 midway through the 3rd. They rattled off the game's final 22 points to pull away however. Reid Van Gysel ran for 100 yards and a score while quarterback Max Tramburg added two rushing touchdowns and another through the air.

Menasha - The Bluejays trailed Stevens Point 21-14 entering the 4th quarter of the VFA-South opener for both teams. Menasha took over the final period however, scoring 17 straight points to post a 31-21 victory over the defending league champs. Quarterback Tyler Johnson struggled a bit throwing the ball, completing just 7 of 17 passes for 107 yards, but he made numerous big plays in the running game. He finished with 22 carries for 193 yards and 3 touchdowns, and was joined in the century club by Dylan Szews, who recorded 15 carries for 101 yards and 1 touchdown. Chris Munoz also booted a 28-yard field goal to put Menasha up for good in the decisive 4th quarter.

Mount Horeb/Barneveld - The Vikings have been on the precipice of a Badger-North Conference title the last couple years, including last season when they suffered just one league defeat -- a 13-10 defeat at the hands of Waunakee in the final regular season game of the year. They got an early chance at redemption, opening the conference season against the Warriors. They wouldn't let victory slip through their fingers this time however, outlasting Waunakee 28-21 in a hard-fought game. Quarterback Max Meylor was outstanding, throwing for 194 yards and 2 touchdowns while adding 69 yards and 2 scores on the ground, including the game-winning 29-yard scramble in the fourth quarter. It was Waunakee's first Badger-North loss since October 2nd of 2009 when they went down to Reedsburg 15-10.

Stratford - It was just over a year ago that Stratford traveled to Eau Claire to take on Regis in a non-conference game. That one ended in a 50-0 blowout loss for the Tigers, who had a shot at redemption Friday night when they hosted the Ramblers. This time around it was Stratford that pitched a shutout, winning a defensive struggle 13-0 behind a pair of touchdown runs from senior running back Eli Temenson.
