Splash of the Week: Sparta football

Sparta football ended a long losing streak on Friday night when they defeated Aquinas. The Spartans are this week's PlayintheDells.com Splash of the Week

Quarterback Derek Mutschler's 62-yard touchdown run in the second quarter gave the Spartans a 14-6 lead and they went on to beat Aquinas 27-6. 

The win ended Sparta's 20-game losing streak overall and snapped a 35-game losing streak in the Mississippi Valley. 

Mutschler finished with 64 yards on the ground with the one score and went 4-for-5 passing for 55 yards.

Brody Chirstopherson collected 72 yard on 11 carries and two touchdowns. Josh Hesselberg scored the first touchdown of the game for the Spartans, finding the end zone from 15 yards out.

Matt Hampel and Trent Ruedy added 98 and 64 yards on the ground for Sparta.

The Spartans last win came against Black River Falls on September 5, 2011. Their last conference win was against Holmen on October 5, 2007.
