WisSports.net Week 8 Team of the Week Nominees:

Hortonville -- With a 34-27 overtime victory over West De Pere, Hortonville not only secured an outright Bay Conference title, they ended the Phantoms' seven-year reign at the top. In a back-and-forth battle befitting two of the top teams in the state, the teams posted similar statistics and had to head to an extra period to sort out the final. Hortonville got the ball first in overtime and scored on a 1-yard Alex Lasinski touchdown run. The defense then held West De Pere on their try to wrap it up. Lasinski finished with 141 yards while quarterback Andrew Thompson continued his incredibly efficient season by completing 11 of 15 passes for 177 yards and 1 touchdown.

Lodi -- The Blue Devils had one major hurdle to clear to secure at least a share of the Capitol-North title, and did just that on Friday with a 27-3 win over Columbus in a matchup of the last remaining unbeaten teams in league play. With the offense taking a bit to get going in the first half, it was defense and special teams that picked up the slack. Garret Wegner drilled a 44-yard field goal to open things up, then Logan Furniss returned an interception 36 yards as the Blue Devils took a 10-0 lead. Chance Browning completed 11 of 18 passes for 224 yards and a touchdown in the win.

Peshtigo -- It was a crossover game between the Northern Lakes and M&O, but Friday's game between Northern Elite and Peshtigo counted in the standings for both teams and carried a significant amount of weight for conference bragging rights. Peshtigo's chances didn't seem great when Northern Elite scored with 3:50 left in the third quarter to go up 18-7, but Jake Veness flipped momentum with a 64-yard kickoff return for a touchdown. Michael Vojcihoski went in for a 3-yard touchdown with 7:50 left in the game as the Bulldogs held on for the 22-18 win.

Riverdale -- It has to go down as one of the biggest upsets of the season, as Riverdale's 18-15 triple overtime win over Iowa-Grant secured the Chieftains' playoff spot and forged a three-way tie in the SWAL standings. Coming into this season, Riverdale had gone just 2-47 in conference play since last qualifying for the playoffs in 2005. Iowa-Grant was coming off a state semi-final run last year and entered the game with just one loss this year to league-leading Darlington. Neither team scored in the first two overtimes, but junior Keegan Franklin's 27-yard field goal in the third extra period provided the winning points.

Waupaca -- The Comets have dominated the Eastern Valley Conference for some time, and had a chance to wrap up at least a share of another league championship when they hosted fellow unbeaten Xavier. Falling behind 12-0 to the Hawks and trailing 20-7 in the third quarter, Waupaca stormed back with 29 straight points for a 36-20 victory. Nate Jenson didn't post the most efficient numbers passing the ball, but did account for three touchdowns in that stretch as he passed for one and ran for a pair. He finished with 103 passing yards and 2 touchdowns while adding 128 yards and 2 scores on the ground.
