Below are the WSN Athlete of the Week Nominees for the week of December 23 through 29. Voting is open until Thursday at 4pm, so be sure to vote for who you feel is most deserving and spread the word. Users may vote once per day.

Logan Geisness, Waukesha boys hockey, helped the Wings to the championship at the Joe Raymond Holiday Hockey Classic. Just a freshman, the forward's second period goal in the title game against University School of Milwaukee proved to be the game-winner as Waukesha held on for a 1-0 win. He also had a goal and an assist in the first game of the event, a 4-0 win over Janesville, and added a pair of assists in a 6-3 semi-final win against Waterloo (IA).

Matt Heldt, Neenah boys basketball, put on a great display on the big stage last week, leading the Rockets to a pair of victories over quality teams at the Wisconsin Basketball Yearbook Shootout. On Friday, he scored 22 points in a 62-41 win over Marquette, before tangling with fellow 2015 big man Henry Ellenson of Rice Lake, pouring in 25 point with 8 rebounds in a 60-49 victory.

Alex Mortimer, Richland Center boys basketball, helped the Hornets to the title at the Cuba City Holiday Tournament. Richland Center scored an easy 58-27 win over Highland in the first game, as the senior 6-6 wingman scored a game-high 15 points with 13 rebounds, 5 assists, and 3 blocks. In the championship game against the host Cubans, a team the Hornets used to face in the SWAL-Large, Mortimer came up big once again for first year coach Brandon Ewing, scoring 16 points, pulling down 10 rebounds with 7 blocks, and 5 assists in a 56-44 victory.

MacKenzie Schill, Pewaukee girls basketball, helped the Pirates pull off one of the biggest upsets of the young season in the championship of the Oak Creek Holiday Tournament. Trailing by 9 points with three minutes to play against Division 1's top-ranked team Oak Creek, Pewaukee found a way to turn up the pressure and outscore the Knights 14-4 over the final minutes for a 42-41 victory. Schill scored 10 of her 12 points in the final quarter, and hit the game-winner on a driving layup with 6 seconds left. She added 7 points in the opening game of the event, a 60-22 rout of Muskego.

Ben Thornton, La Crosse Central wrestling, entered elite company at the prestigious Bi-State Invitational Tournament last week. In an event that began in 1982 and features some of the best talent from around the Midwest, Thornton became just the 6th athlete to win four titles. In the championship match at 120 pounds, Thornton capped off a 7-3 win with a late takedown against last year's Division 2 state champion JJ McClelland of Stoughton. Thornton is now 168-2 in his career with a state title in 2012 and runner-up finishes in 2011 and 2013.
