Oconto Falls girls basketball ended New London’s 52-game Bay Conference winning streak on Tuesday night. The Panthers are this week’s PlayintheDells.com Splash of the Week.
New London’s last conference loss came against Luxemburg-Casco on January 28, 2011.
Oconto Falls outscored New London 31-14 in the second and third quarter combined and went on to defeat New London 55-54 on Tuesday night.
The Panthers trailed 14-1 early and 18-8 after the first quarter before having a big second quarter to take a 25-22 halftime lead and held off a late rally by New London to get the victory.
Senior McKenna Larsen scored a game-high 25 points, including going 10-for-10 from the free throw line to lead the Panthers.
Junior Elizabeth Manns finished with 17 points, including a pair of three-pointers in the contest for Oconto Falls.
Four others scored for the Panthers in the win: junior Kayla Virtues (6 points), sophomore Bailey Wolf (3), senior Carly Lemke (2), and senior Elizabeth Watzka (2).
Oconto Falls improves to 16-2 overall and 11-2 in the Bay Conference. The Panthers earned a No. 1 seed in the Division 3 WIAA Playoffs when the brackets were released yesterday.
