WBCA releases Division 5 Girls Basketball All-State Team

Four players were chosen as unanimous selections on the 2014 Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association All-State Team. They include: Megan Gustafson of South Shore, Stephany Heggemeier of Owen-Withee, Rachel Slaney of Barneveld, and Jen Wellnitz of Black Hawk.

Gustafson is a repeat unanimous pick, she led the state in scoring with 29.3 and rebounding with 18.9 per game for the Cardinals this season. Megan also became the first junior in state history to reach 2,000 career points. 

Slaney is a repeat pick on the D5 All-State team after helping the Golden Eagles reach the state tournament for the second consecutive season. As a junior, she is averaging 15 points and 7 rebounds per game for coach Jim Myers. 

Heggemeier put up big number throughout the season, but none better than her 35 point effort to lift the Blackhawks past South Shore in a sectional final. For the season the junior averaged 19.9 point, 3.8 assists, and 3.4 steals per game for coach Al Guthman. 

Wellnitz is a three-time D5 All-State selection, the Green Bay recruit 23.4 points, 8 rebounds, 5.6 assists, and 6.1 steals per contest for coach Mike Flanagan and the Warriors. 

Heritage Christian junior Marianna Bautista is a quick, athletic guard and was chosen D5 All-State by the coaches. She averaged 15.6 points, 13.1 rebounds, 5.2 assists, and 6.4 steals per game for the Patriots. 

Ramiyah Bennett of Heritage Christian took home Honorable Mention All-State laurels last season. She averaged 23 points, 3.7 assists, and 3.2 steals per game for coach and father Terry Bennett. 

Assumption sophomore Gena Grundhoffer has helped Assumption to back-to-back state tournament appearances. She is averaging 13.3 points and 4.1 rebounds per game for the Royals. 

Mary Sigler a senior from Assumption earned all-state honors for the third straight year. The Regis University recruit is averaging 11.4 points, 3.9 assists, and 4.5 steals per contest for coach Joe Birkhauser and the Royals. 

Fall River's Kelly Tramburg put together an impressive sophomore campaign, averaging 17.2 points, 11.3 rebounds, and 2.5 steals per game for coach Jim Doolittle and the Pirates. 

Hannah Whitish of Barneveld is a standout sophomore that has played a key role in the Golden Eagles return to the Resch Center. She is averaging 17.2 points, 4.6 assists, and 3.4 steals per contest for coach Jim Myers.
