Barneveld scored on a layup from senior Rachel Slaney 14 seconds into the game, and never looked back in a 66-34 rout of Fall River in a Division 5 state semi-final game.

The 32-point margin of victory set a new D5 record, as the Golden Eagles now have the state tournament record for largest margin of victory in both Division 5 and Division 4 (43 points, set in a 63-20 win over Assumption in 2005).

Junior phenom Hannah Whitish was brilliant, especially in the first half. She accounted for 21 points, 4 assists, 4 rebounds, and 5 steals before halftime, finishing with 25 points. Her five made three-pointers set a new Division 5 record.

The game was a stark contrast to a non-conference game between these teams back in February, which was tied at 19 at halftime before Barneveld pulled away for a 54-43 victory.

Rachel Slaney was very efficient for Barneveld as well, scoring 15 points on 7 of 12 shooting from the floor.

Only one Fall River player reached double figures, junior Kelly Tramburg, who finished with 10 points. Fall River had no seniors on the team.

Assumption broke open a close game with a 12-0 run late in the first quarter, and held off a late rally to defeat South Shore 57-43 in a Division 5 state semi-final.

The aggressive Royals defense gave South Shore fits all game, forcing 18 turnovers in the first half and 30 for the game. Assumption finished with 22 steals, just shy of the D5 record.

The backcourt tandem of Autumn Linzmeier and Macie Zurfluh accounted for 14 steals, to go along with 24 points. Gena Grundhoffer added 14 points as well.

The game marked the end of an incredible career for South Shore's Megan Gustafson, who earlier this season set state records for most points in a game, season, and career. Despite foul trouble, she finished with 30 points and 18 rebounds.

Assumption led by as many as 23 points late in the third quarter, but a run by South Shore closed the gap to just 10 on two different occasions in the fourth quarter. Assumption was able to hold on however, eventually increasing its lead to 57-43 on a Grundhoffer layup with 2:35 left. That was the final basket for either team.

The stage is now set for a third straight Division 5 title game featuring Assumption and Barneveld. Assumption won the title in 2013, while Barneveld scored the victory last season. The teams met in a non-conference game a month ago, with Assumption scoring a 52-51 victory.

Attendance for the Division 5 session was 3,423.
