WisSports.net Level 1 Team of the Week Nominees:

Eau Claire Memorial -- Winning on the road in the playoffs is an impressive feat. Doing so via shutout makes it even more special. That was the case however for the 6th-seeded Old Abes, who made the long trek across to Bay Port and came away with a 29-0 victory. Jake Ness scored a pair of touchdowns on the ground, quarterback Darian Dieckman added a rushing score, and Andrew Rieck returned a fumble for a touchdown. It was the first playoff win for Memorial since 1987, when the Old Abes captured the only two previous victories in school history.

Fox Valley Lutheran -- The Foxes didn't put up huge offensive numbers, but the team did enough post a 20-14 road victory at #2 Sheboygan Falls Friday night. FVL's high-powered passing attack was effective, even if a bit limited, as Ethan Eisenmann completed 14 of 19 passes for 137 yards and a touchdown against the previously unbeaten Falcons. Perhaps more importantly, the ground game chewed up yardage and time of possession, as Zayne Rodencal went for 107 yards and a touchdown on 30 carries.

Sun Prairie -- Middleton was an outright Big Eight champion and had beaten Sun Prairie, who finished 5-4, by a score of 45-13 during the regular season. No contest, right? Not so fast my friend. While Middleton scored the first and last points of the game, Sun Prairie had success in the 2nd and 3rd quarters, and it was enough to hold on for a 30-23 victory. A pair of interceptions by the defense helped set up the offense, while Jack Maastricht had a fumble return for a score as well.

Tomahawk -- Not only has Tomahawk made the playoffs for the first time since 2007, the Hatchets scored an impressive 19-0 shutout victory over 3rd-seeded Black River Falls. Dane Borchardt carried the ball 31 times for 132 yards, while Kaleb Kaminski had a passing and rushing touchdown as well. Easton Phalin added an 88-yard interception return for a touchdown as Tomahawk (and the weather) shut down the passing attack of BRF.

Union Grove -- The Broncos were better in all phases of the game Friday night, which resulted in a 27-6 win over 2nd-seeded Greenfield. The defense produced three turnovers, the offense utilized a balanced attack to rush for 173 yards in poor weather conditions, and the special teams had a kickoff return touchdown, blocked an extra point, and partially blocked a punt. Quarterback Matt Nelson scored on three short touchdown runs for Union Grove.
