Stevens Point completed one of the most dominating seasons in Wisconsin prep basketball history on Saturday night with an 89-64 triumph over Muskego in the WIAA Division 1 state-title game at the Kohl Center in Madison.

The Panthers finished the campaign with a 28-0 record and outscored their opponents by an average of 33.5 points per game on the season.

In addition to Stevens Point, four teams at the Division 1 level have finished the season with an undefeated record since 2000 -- Milwaukee King in 2003, Oshkosh West in 2006, and Germantown in both 2012 and 2013.

Muskego (23-5), which won the Classic Eight Conference title, raced to a quick 5-0 lead on the Panthers, but Stevens Point responded with an 11-0 run in the span of 2 minutes, 37 seconds and was never seriously threatened the rest of the game.

Stevens Point led by 41-21 at halftime and by as many as 30 points in the second half. Muskego got no closer than 15 points in the second half and trailed by at least 24 points over the final 8:36 of the game.

"They kicked our butts," Muskego coach Andy Capes said. "Tip your hat to Stevens Point. They are a great team."

Many believe the Panthers rank among the best teams in Wisconsin history after securing their second straight Division 1 title in such convincing fashion.

In addition to winning two Division 1 state crowns, Stevens Point has gone 100-6 and won four Wisconsin Valley Conference titles with seniors Sam Hauser and Trev Anderson in the lineup the past four seasons.

"It's been a magical journey with this group," Stevens Point coach Scott Anderson said. "I've been their coach since fourth grade when I started coaching them along with my assistant, Dave Hauser.

"They've gone 100-6 in their career with two state championships and a couple of Mr. Basketball awards. That's pretty impressive stuff."

Sam Hauser, a versatile and skilled 6-foot-6 forward headed to Marquette, and Trev Anderson, a physical and skilled 6-2 guard headed to Green Bay, shared the Mr. Basketball award as announced by the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association on Saturday.

Hauser had 23 points, eight rebounds, three assists, two blocks and two steals against Muskego. He had eight blocks in the Panthers' two state-tournament games to tie the Division 1 record for most blocks in a tournament with eight. He shares the record with future Marquette teammate Luke Fischer, who blocked eight shots for Germantown in the 2013 state tournament.

Anderson finished with 20 points, four assists and two steals against the Warriors. He completes his career with 2,299 points.

"They've earned everything they've gotten," Scott Anderson said of his son, Trev, and Hauser. "We needed to close out the season tonight with an earned victory, and I think we did that. If it wasn't our best performance, it was close to our best.

"Is it one of the best teams in the history of the state? They've been appreciative of that kind of talk, but they've kept their focus and continued to work hard. That focus helped us to be consistent over the last four years."

Sophomore Joey Hauser (6-7), who owns scholarship offers from both Marquette and Wisconsin, finished with 13 points, four rebounds, three assists and three steals while sophomore sharpshooter Drew Blair (6-2) came off the bench to score 11 points on the strength of a three-for-three showing from beyond the three-point arc.

Senior guard Jamison Kryshak (5-11) also drilled three triples and finished with nine points as Stevens Point connected on 10 of 21 attempts from deep.

Defensively, Stevens Point forced 16 turnovers and converted those miscues into a 28-6 advantage in points off of turnovers.

The Panthers had 16 assists and again demonstrated their unselfishness with tremendous ball movement on the offensive end of the court.

"I think (being unselfish) is the key to our success," Trev Anderson said. "We have a lot of talent on our team, but we just want to win and you cannot win with just one person. We've done a great job of finding the open guy."

And more often than not, that open guy delivered a basket as Stevens Point dominated the prep basketball scene in this state from the first day of practice on November 16, 2015 until the final horn sounded in the title game on March 19, 2016.

"Sharing the ball is the key," Hauser said. "Being unselfish is just kind of how we've been brought up. We find the guys who are hot. Today, we got three threes from Drew Blair and Jamison Kryshak. They were hot, so we found them."

Muskego seniors Tommy Anderson (20 points), Caleb Wagner (16 points) and Matty Farner (13 points, 10 rebounds) closed out their brilliant careers with two straight league titles and a runner-up finish in the Division 1 state tournament.

Not bad for a program that went 37-78 in the five years prior to the 2014-15 season.

"Stevens Point came out and was very physical with us," Wagner said. "In the second half, we got into the flow a bit better. But they are so physical and made everything tough on us."
