As usual, the 2016 Girls Soccer State Tournament was full of close matches, with just one of 12 contests decided by more than two goals, and eight of them decided by a single goal or penalty kicks.

In Division 1, Madison West advanced past Eau Claire Memorial via penalty kicks, while Divine Savior Holy Angels dispatched Muskego 3-1. In the title game, DSHA got an early goal from Amanda Durst and made it hold up in a 1-0 win.

Defending champion Oregon topped Pulaski 2-0 in one Division 2 semi-final, with Homestead getting past Waukesha West in the other. In the championship match, neither team was able to score in regulation or overtime, but Homestead won a thrilling shootout, 2-1 to claim the title.

The Sugar River co-op squeezed past Seymour 1-0 in a Division 3 semi-final, as Catholic Memorial topped Notre Dame 2-0 on the other side of the bracket. The title game turned into a blowout, as Catholic Memorial won 5-0, capturing a fifth consecutive state title.

Aquinas edged the Lake Country Lutheran/University Lake co-op in one D4 semi-final match, while The Prairie School got past Oostburg by a single goal in the other. A first half goal from Hannah Compernolie was all that The Prairie School needed as Quinn Shannon was tested with just three shots on goal and recorded a shutout in a 1-0 win.
