WisSports.net Week 7 Player of the Week Nominees:

Daniel Carter, Marquette -- The Hilltoppers started the season 0-3 against a tough schedule, as all three losses came by one score. Marquette has gotten back on track, however, and it paid off in a big way in a 35-25 win over Germantown at Hart Park. In the long and storied history of Marquette football, no player has rushed for more yards in a single game than Daniel Carter, who finished with 330 yards and 4 touchdowns on 32 carries. His 55-yard score with 3:43 helped put the game away for Marquette after Germantown had pulled to within three points.

Johnny Davis, La Crosse Central -- Friday's Mississippi Valley Conference showdown with Sparta was extremely important for both teams, who entered with identical 2-2 league records. The winner would need just one more victory to clinch a playoff spot, while the loser would need to win out the final two weeks. In a game never separated by more than one score, it was fitting that it was tied heading into the fourth quarter. Central scored what would prove to be the game-winning touchdown on a Johnny Davis to Greg Kohler 8-yard touchdown pass with 6:25 left in a 46-38 victory. Davis finished with 420 passing yards and 5 touchdowns, completing 24 of 49 passes. He also added a rushing touchdown.

Evan Gates, Lancaster -- On the road against an undefeated team coming off a WSN Team of the Week award. What do you do? Hand it off to your All-State fullback 50 times. That's what Lancaster did on Friday, as the Flying Arrows took down Prairie du Chien 62-27 in a key SWC contest. Gates got Lancaster on the board right away, scoring a 26-yard touchdown less than three minutes into the game. Head coach John Hoch kept feeding him, as Gates racked up 50 carries for 387 yards and 6 touchdowns.

Hunter Plamann, Xavier -- Xavier clinched a playoff spot with a 49-28 win over Shawano Friday, and not surprisingly, Hawks' quarterback Hunter Plamann had a huge game. Plamann, a D1 recruit who helped Xavier to an undefeated state basketball title in March, completed 30 of 39 passes for 444 yards and 6 touchdowns in the victory for a passer rating of 153.2. He was also the team's second-leading rusher with 45 yards on seven carries.

Matt Verhasselt, Freedom -- Freedom's two conference losses could keep them out of the North Eastern Conference title discussion, but the Irish did everything they could to stay in the hunt on Friday, and play a bit of spoiler while they were at it. The Irish handed Wrightstown its first loss of the season, 26-10. Verhasselt played a big role on both sides of the ball, completing 8 of 12 passes for 204 yards and three touchdowns, tying for the team lead with 52 rushing yards. He also led the team with 10 tackles on defense.
