Each week WSN will take a look at the happenings in the Wisconsin Collegiate Conference, which includes many of the two-year campuses in the UW system. A look back at the big performances and news from the week before, a look ahead to some of the big games coming up, plus a Player of the Week will be featured.

Looking Back

It was an interesting week in the WCC, where Washington continued its strong season with a 114-61 victory over UW-Richland last Wednesday. A.J. Barnes, Jr.'s 24 points led seven Wildcats players with at least nine points. Washington is now 9-0 in league play, two-and-a-half games ahead of second place Fox Valley.

Things got a bit more interesting in the West, as league-leading UW-Rock went down 80-76 at Waukesha last Wednesday. It was an intense battle, but Kurt Meyle (St. John's NW Military Academy) led the Cougars with 22 points.

Rock rebounded with a 113-81 win over Manitowoc on Saturday, but Monday's game against Marinette was postponed. Rock still holds a game-and-a-half lead over Marathon in the West.

Sheboygan has won four straight, including victories over Baraboo and Richland last week, as Alex Antoine's (Sheboygan Falls) big season continues. In the four-game streak he has averaged 33 points and 11 rebounds per game.

Looking Ahead

Division leaders UW-Rock and UW-Washington square off for their crossover game tonight, a contest that will count in the league standings for both teams. It has been an eventful week for Rock, but they have a chance to take a commanding lead in the West Division. A loss would open the door for Marathon to make a push over the second half of the season.

Scores have been up in general over the last couple weeks, and with five games on the schedule for this evening, we could see some big numbers once again.

On Saturday, four games will be held around the WCC. Marathon hosts Fox Valley, as the Huskies try to keep pace in the West. Marathon is coming off an impressive 81-73 win over Waukesha.

WCC Men's Basketball Player of the Week: Jason Gurholt, UW-Fox Valley

UW-Fox Valley started the 2018 year on the right foot, winning three games in the last week. Last Wednesday, the Cyclones held off a second-half rally to claim an 88-78 win over Marshfield. Fox Valley topped Baraboo 76-66 on Saturday, then defeated Manitowoc 78-70 on Monday. Jason Gurholt was a constant in each game, hitting double figures in all three victories while averaging 15 points per game.
