Appleton North's Kari Brekke selected as the top senior Point Guard

Appleton North's Kari Brekke has been selected as the top senior Point Guard as part of the WSN Basketball Awards

Brekke is a pass-first point guard that sees the floor well. She also has the ability to get to the hoop off the bounce and knock down an outside shot. She also plays well on the defensive end of the floor, especially on the ball. 

The New Hampshire recruit is averaging 12.9 points, 3.9 assists, 2.7 rebounds and 2.7 steals per game for coach Joseph Russom and the Lightning. 

Brekke, 5-foot-6, tied a career-high with 22 points in a victory over Neenah in December. She also netted 20 points in a win over Fond du Lac and a loss to Milwaukee King. 

Last season, she helped Appleton North capture the Division 1 state title with a perfect 28-0 record and was name honorable mention WBCA all-state.

Appleton North is 22-4 entering its Division 2 state semifinal against Arrowhead at the Resch Center on Friday.  

Finalists for the award were Brekke, Alina Hampton of Kimberly, Caitlin Link of Madison Edgewood, Tishara Morehouse of Milwaukee King, and Taylor Petit of D.C. Everest. 

Past winners of the award include Cassidy Trotter of Beaver Dam (2017), Hannah Whitish of Barneveld (2016), Gabby Green of Pius XI (2015), Gabrielle Ortiz of The Prairie School (2014), Taylor Schmidt of Algoma (2013), and Nicole Bauman of New Berlin Eisenhower (2012).
