Many high school basketball standouts in Wisconsin go on to big things at the college level and in the pros, and this is our spot to recognize those athletes each week and help you keep up with what is going down on some of your favorite players from the past. If you have alumni news, please send it to Colton Wilson by 6 p.m. on Tuesdays.

Alumni Update

It can’t be said enough the amount of talent throughout college girls basketball from the state of Wisconsin. Week in and week out, records are being broken , milestones set, and player of the week awards earned.

In speaking of milestones, Megan Gustafson has been mentioned in the previous two editions of the alumni round-up; for good reason. The former South Shore standout has been named Big Ten Player of the Week four times for Iowa, crossed the 1,000 career rebounding mark, and this past weekend added another two double-doubles to her season total. Not only that, but Megan again crossed another milestone this by eclipsing the 2,000 points in a career mark.

Megan is in her senior season at Iowa, well fellow Badger state alum Kari Brekke is just beginning her freshman year at New Hampshire. Brekke, an Appleton North grad, has started all 10 games at New Hampshire and this past week averaged over 7 points and 6 assists per game. Kari was named the America East Rookie of the Week for her play.

She shot an efficient 19 of 25 from the field and hit 11 three pointers along the way. The 11 three pointers are an NIU and MAC record as well.
