Looking Back

There were a few cancelations in the last week, and ultimately not much changed at the top of the standings in the WCC.

Sheboygan got yet another huge game from big man Dylan Martens (Sheboygan South HS) to defeat Fond du Lac 102-83 last Wednesday. Martens tied a career-high with 46 points to go with 11 rebounds and four steals in the game, as he shot 15-of-21 from he field and 16-of-16 from the free throw line. Quentin Beaudoin (Sheboygan North) chipped in 24 points and Kain Pearson added 16 for the Wombats.

Sheboygan remains in a tie atop the WCC-East with Marinette, who dropped a non-conference game to Gogebic (MI) Community College on Wednesday before soundly defeating Fox Valley on Saturday, 90-65. Jack Farley (St. Thomas Aquinas) had a double-double with 26 points and 11 rebounds.

Marshfield ended a seven-game skid with a 54-34 victory over Barron last Wednesday. Playing all 40 minutes, Jack Bezlyk (Spencer) had 22 points and 26 rebounds.

Looking Ahead

WCC-West leading Marathon was scheduled to play its first game since January 19th this evening, but that game against Marshfield has been postponed by weather. The Baraboo versus Rock game scheduled for tonight has been postponed as well.

Fond du Lac has three games scheduled in the next week. The Falcons are set to host Fox Valley on Thursday with a quick turnaround for a game at Washington on Friday evening. The team then welcomes in the Marian JV squad on Monday.

It's a huge one with conference title implications on Saturday as Waukesha makes the trip to Marinette. Waukesha sits a game behind Marinette and Sheboygan currently. The teams met in the first game of the year way back in November, as Waukesha claimed an 87-72 victory behind five players in double-figures. Despite making 24-of-27 free throws, Marinette was just 4-for-25 from behind the three-point line and committed 28 turnovers, giving themselves little shot in that one.

WCC Men's Basketball Player of the Week: Dylan Martens, Sheboygan

For the third time this year, the award goes to Sheboygan's Dylan Martens. In the Wombats' lone game last week, Martens tied his career-high with 46 points as the team topped a very game Fond du Lac squad 102-83. They were important points by Martens, as the score was just 51-48 at halftime before Sheboygan put things away in the second half. He finished with 11 rebounds and four assists as well.
