UW-Marathon got a bit of revenge this weekend as it rolled to its second consecutive Wisconsin Collegiate Conference State Tournament championship.

In a tightly contested 63-60 semi-final win over UW-Marinette, Patience Pyan (Merrill) led the team with 24 points to send Marathon to the championship game Sunday.

Marathon faced off with UW-Fond du Lac who beat them in both of their regular season matchups. Fond du Lac clobbered UW-Waukesha 63-47 in the other semi-final game. Gretchen Puls (Lomira) led Fond du Lac with 17 points in the win while teammates Kelsey Margelofsky (Mayville) and Cassidy Williams (Winnebago Lutheran) scored in double figures as well.

After one quarter, Marathon and Fond du Lac were tied at 14 points a piece before Patience Pyan took over. Pyan, the WCC Player of the Year, scored all 13 of Marathon's second quarter points as they went into half with a 27-17 edge. Pyan scored another 9 while teammate Belizia Rodriquez (Adams-Friendship) chipped in 7 in the third quarter to push the lead to 46-30.

Fond du Lac got back within nine a few times in the fourth quarter, but Marathon was too much as they won 60-46 to avenge their two regular season losses and win back-to-back WCC State Tournament Championships.

Pyan scored a game high 30 points while adding 10 rebounds for Marathon. Belizia Rodriguez added 15 points while Amber Krause (Tomah) had 4 points and 12 rebounds. UW-Fond du Lac was led in scoring by Cassidy Williams (Winnebago Lutheran) with 12 points, while Hannah Preissner, also of Winnebago Lutheran, had 4 points and 11 rebounds.
