WIAC Women's Basketball All-Conference and Awards Announced

University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire’s Hallee Hoeppner was chosen the Player of the Year to top the individuals selected to the 2019 All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Women’s Basketball Team by the league coaches. In addition, UW-Oshkosh’s Brad Fischer was picked the Coach of the Year.

Hoeppner is the eighth Blugold to receive the award. She leads the conference with 18.3 points per game, while ranking second with 36.38 minutes per contest, third with 7.8 rebounds per game, sixth with a .481 field goal percentage and .347 three-point field goal percentage, eighth with 19 blocked shots and ninth with a .750 free-throw percentage. Hoeppner reached double-digits in scoring in 22 of 25 games, including a conference-high 36 points against UW-Stout on Jan. 19, 2019. She led the Blugolds in scoring in 14 games and produced seven contests of at least 10 rebounds.

UW-Stout’s Kyncaide Diedrich was the lone repeat selection on the first team from a season ago and also secured a spot on the All-Defensive Team for the second straight year. UW-Oshkosh’s Olivia Campbell joined Diedrich as a repeat selection on the all-defensive squad.

Fischer was tabbed the Coach of the Year for the third time in his career (2013, 2017) after leading the Titans to their 13th regular-season conference title and fifth tournament championship. UW-Oshkosh also earned a berth into the NCAA Division III Championship for the fifth time in the last six seasons.

An All-Sportsmanship Team was chosen for individuals that displayed exemplary sportsmanship throughout the season. It included one member from each school.

UW-Stout’s Diersen and UW-Oshkosh’s Pustina Named Judy Kruckman Basketball Scholar-Athlete Award Winners

University of Wisconsin-Stout’s Bailey Diersen and UW-Oshkosh’s Chloe Pustina have been selected co-recipients of the 2019 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Judy Kruckman Basketball Scholar-Athlete Award.

A senior from Greenville, Wis. (Fox Valley Lutheran), Diersen is majoring in applied science with a minor in Spanish and sustains a 3.81 grade point average. She earned a spot on the 2019 Google Cloud NCAA Division III Academic All-District® Six Women’s Basketball Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America. Diersen is a three-time member of the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll and received UW-Stout’s Chancellor Award for Academic Excellence numerous occasions.

A two-year team captain, Diersen secured All-WIAC first team recognition and all-defensive team honors this season after receiving honorable mention status in 2018. She set the school single-season record with 91 steals this year and finished fourth on UW-Stout’s all-time scoring list with 1,272 career points.

Diersen is a member of UW-Stout’s Pre-Health Society and has worked in the Athletic Department for four years.

Pustina, a senior from Cuba City, Wis., is majoring in kinesiology: healthcare science and maintains a 3.94 grade point average. She is a three-time member of the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll and has been recognized on UW-Oshkosh’s Dean’s List numerous semesters.

A team captain this season, she secured All-WIAC honorable mention accolades enroute to helping the Titans secure the conference regular-season and tournament titles. UW-Oshkosh also earned a bid to the NCAA Division III championship for the third time in Pustina’s four years. Pustina is a four-year contributor to the women’s basketball leadership team.

She is a member of UW-Oshkosh’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and Pre-Med Society. Pustina has volunteered with Feeding America, Special Olympics and as a youth basketball counselor.

UW-River Falls’ Taylor Paulsrud (Sr., Rogers, Minn.) and UW-Whitewater’s Becky Deichl (Sr., Libertyville, Ill.) were also nominated for this year’s scholar-athlete award.

The WIAC Scholar-Athlete Award is named after Judy Kruckman who served as Assistant Commissioner for the WIAC from 1996-98. Prior to this appointment, she was Commissioner of the Wisconsin Women's Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WWIAC) from October, 1984 - September, 1996. Kruckman was the women's athletics director at UW-Eau Claire from 1974-84, and one of the original representatives to the WWIAC when it formed in 1971. She was inducted into the WIAC Hall of Fame in 2012.

In order to be nominated for the scholar-athlete award, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.50 grade point average. In addition, she must be in her last year of competition, or on schedule to graduate this academic year, and have competed for a minimum of two years.
