D.C. Everest's Luke Heller has been selected as the top senior Post player as part of the WSN Senior Boys Basketball Awards presented by Taco Bell.

A four-year varsity player for D.E. Everest, Heller can score facing the basket from beyond the three-point arc or use his physical strength to score in the lane. A three-time first-team all-league pick in the Wisconsin Valley Conference, he was the league's Player of the Year as a senior after averaging 19 points and 10 rebounds per contest in leading the team to a conference title.

The Evergreens advanced to the sectional finals before bowing out to Oshkosh North, but recorded one of the most successful seasons in school history, going 23-3 overall and 12-0 in league play. In a season-opening win over Green East, Heller pumped in 33 points and snared 26 rebounds.

"Luke is a tremendous basketball player who has the ability to play inside and out," said D.C. Everest head coach Cory Heckel. "Luke has been a winner ever since stepping on the court his freshman year!"

Also an outstanding student, Heller is ranked #1 in his class with a 4.0 GPA and has accepted a basketball scholarship to Michigan Tech where he will major in mechanical engineering.

"Luke is a very high character kid always doing the right thing," Heckel added. "He is what is right about high school athletics."

Finalists for the award were Heckel, Izaiah Anderson of Oshkosh North, Nick Arenz of Onalaska, Brandon Staffeil of DeForest, and Ryan Tachick of Bay Port.

The voting panel for the WSN Senior Basketball Awards consisted of:  Nicholas Kartos, WSN President and Founder; Travis Wilson, WSN Content Manager; Mark Miller, WSN Boys Basketball Editor; John Casper Jr., Eau Claire Leader-Telegram
