Wisconsin Sports Network and WisSports.net are happy to announce Amherst's Garrett Groshek as the 2015 recipient of the Dave Krieg Award as the most outstanding senior quarterback in Wisconsin, part of the WSN Senior Football Awards.

A three-year starter for the Falcons, Groshek is over 1000 yards both rushing and passing this season, marking the third straight year he has done so.

This year, he has a 143.2 quarterback rating, completing 68% of his passes (117-172) for 2226 yards and 37 touchdowns, with just 3 interceptions. This despite playing only one full game during the regular season, and a couple series in others. He's also rushed 102 times for 1,258 yards and 14 touchdowns, helping the Falcons to a perfect 13-0 record so far.

“He's a tremendous leader who holds himself and others accountable on and off the field,” said head coach Mark Lusic.

Groshek and the Falcons head into Thursday's state final game against Spencer/Columbus Catholic undefeated, scoring 53.4 points per game. He was recognized as a WFCA All-State selection this week and received the WFCA Offensive Player of the Year honor.

Finalists for the award were Groshek, Emmett Enright of Madison Memorial, Clayton Ladsten of Green Bay Southwest, Max Meylor of Mount Horeb/Barneveld, and Zach Simons of Xavier.

Past winners of the award include Oshkosh West's Trey Demler (2009), Franklin's Lance Baretz (2010), West De Pere's Jay Tollefson (2011), Watertown's Tarek Yaeggi (2012), Xavier's Matt Ferris (2013), and Brown Deer's Zack Baun (2014).

The award is named after Dave Krieg, a graduate of D.C. Everest High School who went on to star at Milton College and later in the National Football League. Krieg ranks in the Top 12 in NFL history in career pass attempts, completions, passing yards, and passing touchdowns. He was selected to the Pro Bowl three times in his 12-year career.
