The Pewaukee Pirates have been selected as the Level 3 Team of the Week following a statewide vote on WSN. The team won a nail-biter over Monroe to advance to it's first ever state semi-finals. The Pirates were chosen from a strong group of nominees in Level 3. A total of 5,476 votes were cast, as Pewaukee's 1,632 votes edged Badger's 1,514.

It was fitting that in a game dominated by the defenses, it was the defense of Pewaukee that came up huge in the final minutes to secure the victory. With Pewaukee holding a 7-3 lead in the fourth quarter, Monroe got a first down at the Pirates' 1-yard line with 4:44 left to play. On four consecutive running plays, Monroe tried to break into the end zone, only to be denied by the Pewaukee defense, who held the lead. The Pirates defense held off one more late Cheesemakers rally in the closing seconds of the game to hold on for a 7-3 victory. The lone touchdown was a 32-yard pass from Josh Swanson to Seth Bickett in the second quarter.

Remember folks, the only way your favorite team can be named WSN Team of the Week is to vote and share the word. Look for the Level 4 nominees to be posted Monday afternoon.
