The 46th annual Girls Basketball State Tournament was held at the Resch Center in Green Bay. 

Randolph and Waupun each won their first state title. Kettle Moraine and Mineral Point now have two state titles, and Notre Dame claimed the program's fifth WIAA state championship. 

Division 1

Kettle Moraine won the program's second state title. The Lasers rolled past Appleton East, 69-53, in the championship game. Kettle Moraine has seven state tournament appearances; they won their first gold ball in 1999. Head coach Todd Hansen, 329-103 overall, wins his first state title. The Lasers were ranked No. 4 in the WSN Preseason Rankings.

Division 2

Notre Dame claimed its fourth state title in the past nine years. The Tritons defeated Pewaukee, 68-54, in the championship game. Coach Sara Rohde, 230-62 overall, joined an elite list of coaches who have won four WIAA girls' basketball state titles; others on the list are Jeff Pustina of Cuba City (9), Jim Myers of Barneveld (6), Pam Kruse of Milwaukee Washington (5), Arnie Skrukrud of Fall Creek (4), and Ted Alberson of Flambeau (4). While they were not part of the WIAA then, Joel Claassen won 14 WISAA titles at Pius XI Catholic. Notre Dame has nine WIAA state tournament appearances and five gold balls. Notre Dame was the top-ranked team in the WSN Preseason Rankings.

Division 3

Waupun captured the program's first-ever state title. The Warriors cruised to a 63-42 win over Freedom in the championship game. Coach Tim Aalsma, 99-27 overall, guided the Warriors to the state title in his fourth year as head coach. The program's only other state tournament appearance was in 1996. Waupun was the top-ranked team in the WSN Preseason Rankings.

Division 4

Mineral Point captured its second state title in program history and finished the year with a perfect 30-0 record. The Pointers earned a 53-42 victory against Laconia in the state championship game. Coach Michael Keyes, 157-61 overall and 68-10 at Mineral Point, guided the Pointers to the state tournament for the second consecutive season, finishing as the state runner-up last season. Mineral Point's other state championship was in 2016. The Pointers were ranked No. 2 in the WSN Preseason Rankings.

Division 5

Randolph captured its first state championship in program history and finished the year with a perfect 31-0 record. The Rockets defeated Assumption, last year's D5 state champion, 47-31 in the title game. Coach Chad Kaufman, 108-23 record, guided Randolph to just its second state appearance; the Rockets' only other trip was in 2001. Randolph was the top-ranked team in the WSN Preseason Rankings.

WISSPORTS.NET ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM

Abbie Aalsma, 5-9, sr., guard, Waupun -- Aalsma made a big impact in Waupun taking home its first gold ball in program history. The NCAA Division I Illinois State signee scored a team-best 22 points in the Warriors' victory against Freedom in the Division 3 title game. Aalsma shot 9-for-17 from the floor, 3-for-8 from 3-point land, and made her only free throw attempt. Abbie also added three rebounds, five assists, and three steals in the win. In the Warriors' win over Dominican in a state semifinal, Aalsma tallied nine points, three assists, and seven steals. 

Jorey Buwalda, 6-0, jr., forward, Randolph -- Buwalda battled foul trouble in the Rockets win against Highland and finished with six points, nine rebounds, two assists, two steals, and a block. Randolph ended the game on a 15-3 run after Buwlada re-entered the gamed after sitting for about seven minutes with four fouls. The NCAA Division I prospect tallied 10 points, seven rebounds, five assists, and two steals in the win over Assumption in the Division 5 championship game. 

Ella Chambers, 5-3, sr., guard, Mineral Point -- Chambers had a strong start in Mineral Point's victory over Laconia in the D4 state championship game to finish the year with an undefeated 30-0 record. She scored 15 of the Pointers' first 21 points and finished with a game-high 20 points and added two steals. She shot 6-for-15 from the floor and 4-for-8 on three-pointers. Chambers tallied 14 points, four rebounds, two assists, and two steals in the Pointers' victory against Westfield in a state semifinal. 

Maddie DeVries, 5-9, sr., forward, Randolph -- DeVries stepped up big for the Rockets which claimed the D5 state title with an undefeated 31-0 record. In the win over Assumption in the Divsiion 5 title game, She scored a team-high 11 points and added five rebounds and a steal. DeVries also led the Rockets with 13 points and added six rebounds, two assists, three steals, and three blocks in their victory over Highland. 

Trista Fayta, 5-7, soph., point guard, Notre Dame -- Fayta's strong play on both ends of the floor led the Tritons going back-to-back as Division 2 state champions. She scored a game-high 27 points in Notre Dame's 68-54 win over Pewaukee in the title game. Fayta caught fire in the second half when she made four consecutive three-pointers to give the Tritons a 15-point lead with 9:21 left after leading by just six points with 11:20 remaining in the game. She finished the game 6-for-10 from the floor, 4-for-8 on triples, and 11-for-11 from the free throw line. Trista tied the Division 2 state tournament for best free throw percentage in a game (min. seven attempts). She also contributed five rebounds, three assists, five steals, and a block in the title game. Fayta, who has NCAA Division I offers, tallied 12 points, five rebounds, five assists, three steals, and a block in the Tritons' win over Menomonie in a state semifinal. 

Grace Grocholski, 5-10, jr., wing/forward, Kettle Moraine -- Grocholski had a dominating performance in the Lasers' 69-53 win over Appleton East in the Division 1 state championship game, the program's second state title. The NCAA Division I Arizona State commit scored a game-high 34 points while shooting 9-for-14 from the field, 1-for-4 from three, and going 15-for-16 on free throws, which tied the Division 1 state tournament record for free throws made in a game. Grocholski added nine rebounds and two assists, in the win. She recorded a double-double with 2 points, 12 rebounds, two assists, and a steal in Kettle Moraine's semifinal victory against De Pere. She also made six of eight from the free throw line. 

Emily LaChapell, 5-11, sr., wing/guard, Appleton East -- LaChapell had a strong performance in the Patriots' 44-40 win over Brookfield East in a D1 state semifinal. She scored a game-high 20 points and also led the team with eight rebounds. Emily shot 6-for-14 from the field and went 8-for-11 from on free throws. LaChapell netted a team-best 19 points while shooting 7-for-17 from the floor, 2-for-3 on 3-pointers, and making all three of her free throw attempts in the Patriots' loss to Kettle Moraine in the state title game. The NCAA Division I Marquette University signee also finished with seven rebounds, four assists, two steals, and two blocks in the contest. 

Mallory Lindsey, 5-4, sr., guard, Mineral Point -- Lindsey's three-point shooting was well known heading into the state tournament and had plenty of attention from her opponents, but her passing early in the title game gave the Pointers a quick advantage. She had three assists led to an early 14-5 lead for the Pointers, which defeated Laconia, 53-42, in the Division 4 title game to end the year with a perfect 30-0 record. Lindsey, an NCAA Division III UW-Oshkosh commit, finished the game with 14 points and five assists. She was 8-for-10 from the free throw line and went 2-for-6 from 3-point land. In Mineral Point's state semifinal victory against Westfield, Lindsey tallied 20 points, including going 10-for-10 from on free throws, which tied a Division 4 state tournament record for best free throw percentage in a game (min. seven attempts). 

Kayl Petersen, 6-1, soph., wing/forward, Waupun -- Petersen was a big reason that Waupun is taking home the program's first gold ball. She netted a team-best 22 points and added four rebounds, three assists, two steals, and three blocks in a state semifinal win over Petersen, who holds a few NCAA Division I offers, shot 8-for-16 from the floor, 4-for-7 from behind the arc, and went 2-for-2 from the free throw line. In Waupun's 63-42 win over Freedom in the title game, Petersen tallied 15 points, seven rebounds, two assists, and three blocks. She was 5-for-11 from the floor, 4-for-7 from three, and made one of two from the charity stripe. 

Amy Terrian, 5-8, frosh., guard, Pewaukee -- Terrian had a big-time performance in the Pirates' 73-43 victory over previously unbeaten Reedsburg in a state semifinal. She scored a game-high 31 points and added five assists and three steals. Terrian, an NCAA Division I prospect, shot 9-for-15 on field goals, went 3-for-6 from 3-point land, and made 10 of 11 from the charity stripe. In Pewaukee's loss to Notre Dame in the D2 championship game, Terrian scored a team-best 16 points and added five assists and a steal.
