By Travis Wilson

Colton Brunell of Columbus has been selected as the Level 1 Jolly Good Football Player of the Week following a statewide vote on WisSports.net. His big day allowed him to set a new state rushing record in an opening playoff win. He was chosen from a strong group of nominees in Level 1. A total of 3,385 votes were cast, as Brunell's 1,321 were enough to edge out second place Sawyer Hardesty of Mayville, who tallied 658 votes.

Brunell broke the state's career rushing record on Friday night when he went for 27 yards late in a 49-0 Columbus victory over Brodhead/Juda. With 235 yards and three touchdowns on 28 carries in the victory, Brunell now has 6,985 career yards, which eclipses the previous record of 6,932 yards set in 2019 by Racine Lutheran's Tyler Tenner.

Remember folks, the only way your favorite player can be named Jolly Good Football Player of the Week is to vote and share the word. Look for the Level 2 nominees to be posted Monday afternoon.
