D3 Semi-Final Notes: Edgewood and Xavier will meet in the state title game

Edgewood is headed to the Division 3 state championship game on Saturday after defeating Baldwin-Woodville, 62-29, in a state semifinal. 

The Crusaders led early 11-8 before going on a 15-0 run to build a 26-8 lead with 8:17 left in the first half. 

Edgewood led Baldwin-Woodville, 39-15, at halftime.

The rout continued in the second half as the Crusaders scored the first five points of the second half and didn't let the lead get under 25 points the rest of the way.  

Freshman Anna Miller played outstanding for the Crusaders, finishing with a game-high 20 points. She made six of nine from the field and went 2-for-2 from 3-point land. 

Eight others scored for coach Lora Staveness and the Crusaders, including senior Taya Fernandez and sophomore Zhana Gnewuch, who tallied nine and eight points, respectively. 

Baldwin-Woodville was led in scoring by junior Hailey Cota, who netted seven points.

Edgewood will play Xavier in the Division 3 state championship game on Saturday at approximately 2:30 p.m. 

Xavier overcame a double-digit deficit in the second half to defeat Kettle Moraine Lutheran, 56-52, in a Division 3 state semifinal at the Resch Center. 

The Hawks outscored KML 33-16 in the final sixteen minutes of the game after trailing by 13 early in the second half. 

Freshman Elle Krull led the way for the Hawks. She made some big shots for the Hawks and ignited the comeback, finishing with a team-high 20 points and added seven rebounds. 

Senior Molly Martine added 14 points for coach Andy Vande Hey and the Hawks. 

Kettle Moraine Lutheran was led by junior Makenzie Luehring, who tallied a game-high 32 points and added nine rebounds and five steals. 

Xavier will play Edgewood in the Division 3 state championship game on Saturday at approximately 2:30 p.m. The Hawks are in search of their first WIAA state title in program history.
