D5 Semi-Final Notes: Albany/Monticello and Lena advance to the state title game

The third matchup between the Six Rivers East saw Albany/Monticello knock off Argyle/Pecatonica, 37-31, in a Division 5 state semifinal. 

Albany/Monticello, which lost to Argyle/Pec twice in the regular season, earned a 37-31 win to advance to the D5 state title game on Saturday morning. 

The game was tied at 19 at halftime and the second half saw several lead changes before Albany/Monticello took the lead for good with 4:28 remaining when senior Avary Briggs hit a pair of free throws. 

Albany/Monticello outscored Argyle/Pecatonica 8-0 in the final 7:31. 

Junior Abby Hollis (5-6) led Albany/Monticello with nine points, making all six of her free throw attempts. Sophomore Molly Olson (5-4) added seven points for the co-op. 

Argyle/Pecatonica senior Anna Tisch (5-8) scored a game-high 13 points in the loss. Sophomore Kylie Butler (5-7) added nine points. 

Albany/Monticello will play Lena in the Division 5 state championship game on Saturday at 11:05 a.m. 

The Lena Wildcats will meet Albany/Monticello in the Division 5 state title game on Saturday morning. 

The Wildcats defeated Clear Lake, 53-48, in a D5 state semifinal at the Resch Center. 

Lena led 25-20 at halftime and built a nine-point lead late in the contest before holding on for the five-point win. 

Junior Eva Brooks (6-1) finished with a game-high 23 points and 14 rebounds in the victory for the Wildcats. 

Sophomore Madi Thomson (5-10) added 12 points and 11 rebounds for coach Tim Goldschmidt and the Wildcats.

Senior Nora Eggert (5-9) paced Clear Lake with 12 points. 

This is Lena's third trip to a state championship game in team history. They took home the Class C title in 1980.
