Wisconsin Sports Network and WisSports.net are proud to announce Franklin senior Lance Baretz as the 2010 recipient of the Dave Krieg Award as the most outstanding senior quarterback in Wisconsin, part of the WSN Senior Football Awards.

Baretz led the Sabers to an unbeaten regular season that included an outright Southeast Conference championship and trip to the Level 4 state football playoffs. On the season Baretz completed 156 of 264 passed for a state-best 2763 yards with 34 touchdowns against just 11 interceptions. An outstanding dual-threat quarterback, Baretz also rushed 120 times for 810 yards and 16 scores.

In a 40-35 victory over Division 1's top-ranked team Kenosha Bradford back in Week 8, Baretz threw for 288 yards and 5 scores while also rushing for 81 yards and another touchdown. He was recently named a 1st team All-State selection by the Wisconsin Football Coaches Association.

“He is a great quarterback and a great kid,” Franklin coach Jeff Klemp said. “He is the leader of our offense and one of the best football players I have ever coached.”

Finalists for the award were Baretz, Doug Delebreau of Kewaunee, Alex Erickson of Darlington, Matt O'Connell of Clear Lake, and Joel Stave of Whitnall.

The award is named after Dave Krieg, a graduate of D.C. Everest High School who went on to star at Milton College and later in the National Football League.
