Marshfield's Taylor Varsho has been selected as the top senior Shooter as part of the 2012 WSN Senior Basketball Awards presented by Taco Bell.

Varsho has been one of the top shooters and scorers in the state for three years, re-writing the Tigers' record book along the way. She set the all-time career scoring record with 1367 points in her three years on varsity, while also making a school-record 140 three-pointers. Marshfield racked up a 61-13 record with her in the lineup, including two Wisconsin Valley Conference champions and a pair of league Player of the Year awards.

Varsho, who edged Richland Center's Kelsey Collins by just one point in the voting, averages 18.8 points per game for head coach Heidi Michaelis as the Tigers advanced to the sectional finals before bowing out to Oshkosh West. In 12 conference games she connected on 29 of 77 three-pointers (37.7%) on her way to Wisconsin Valley Conference Player of the Year honors.

Taylor is the daughter of Gary Varsho, a former Major League Baseball player who has spent the past 10 years as a coach and scout, most recently with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

Finalists for the award were Varsho, Kelsey Collins of Richland Center, Mehryn Kraker of West Allis Central, Katie Doell of Fox Valley Lutheran, and Taylor VanderPlas of Ripon.

The voting panel for the WSN Senior Girls Basketball Awards consisted of:  Nicholas Kartos, WSN President and Founder; Travis Wilson, WSN Content Manager and Girls Basketball Writer; Martenzie Johnson, WSN Content Producer; John Casper Jr., Eau Claire Leader-Telegram; Dennis Semrau, Wisconsin State Journal
