Wisconsin Sports Network and WisSports.net are happy to announce Watertown's Tarek Yaeggi as the 2012 recipient of the Dave Krieg Award as the most outstanding senior quarterback in Wisconsin, part of the WSN Senior Football Awards presented by Taco Bell.

Yaeggi has been among the state's most productive players the past two years. After throwing for 2241 yards and 22 touchdowns in 8 games as a junior, he has upped the ante even more, leading the state with 3264 passing yards and 40 touchdowns in 11 games as a senior.

Yaeggi completed 218 of 361 passes (60.4%) with a passer rating of 115.5 in 2012. The Goslings finished second in the tough Wisconsin Little Ten Conference and advanced to the Level 3 of the playoffs.

“I feel that in my 9 years of coaching I have not seen another quarterback in the state of Wisconsin execute the spread offense pass game as well as Tarek has done this season,” added Watertown head coach Benji Kamrath.

His signature performance came in Level 2 of the WIAA playoffs, when he led the Goslings to a 54-49 shootout win over Waukesha West. Trailing 33-14 at halftime, he threw five touchdown passes in the second half, including the game-winning score late in the 4th quarter. For the game he finished 26 of 45 for 562 yards and 7 touchdowns.

Finalists for the award were Yaeggi, Ben Diedrick of Kimberly, Brett Kasper of Two Rivers, Brady Kelliher of Arrowhead, and Chris Zblewski of Amherst.

Past winners of the award include Oshkosh West's Trey Demler (2009), Franklin's Lance Baretz (2010), and West De Pere's Jay Tollefson (2011).

The award is named after Dave Krieg, a graduate of D.C. Everest High School who went on to star at Milton College and later in the National Football League. Krieg ranks in the Top 12 in NFL history in career pass attempts, completions, passing yards, and passing touchdowns. He was selected to the Pro Bowl three times in his 12-year career.
