The WSN15 series will celebrate the 15th Anniversary of WisSports.net by looking back at the top players, teams, and moments of the past 15 years (2003-2017).

The WSN15 boys' basketball series continues with the Top 15 Players of the WSN Era.

Jerry Smith never reached the "Holy Grail of Wisconsin high school basketball" during his stellar four-year prep career at Wauwatosa East.

Nonetheless, though Smith did not play in the WIAA State Tournament, his impact on the game in southeastern Wisconsin lands him the well-deserved No. 10 spot in the WSN15: Top Boys Basketball Players of the past 15 seasons.

The 6-foot-2 Smith attracted huge crowds as a junior and senior as the reputation for the three-time Associated Press All-State selection began to expand.

Schools from across the United States recruited the wing guard and he narrowed his choices to Connecticut, Louisville, Tennessee, Wake Forest and Wisconsin before selecting Louisville.

Prior to arriving on the Louisville campus, Smith completed his prep career with 1,673 points and helped the Red Raiders earn three trips to the sectional round of the WIAA playoffs.

As a senior in 2005-06, Smith averaged 25.1 points, 5.2 rebounds and 4.0 assists for coach George Haas as Wauwatosa East went 20-2, won the Greater Metro Conference title and lost to Milwaukee King in a sectional semifinal. Smith scored a career-high 46 points in a win over West Allis Central and shot 54 percent from the field that season.

As a junior, Smith averaged 19.3 points, 6.1 rebounds and 5.4 assists to help the Red Raiders to a 20-3 mark. Wauwatosa East lost to Milwaukee Pius XI in a Division 1 sectional semifinal.

Smith and the Red Raiders lost to Milwaukee Marquette in a regional final in 2004 and, as a freshman, Smith's team lost to Milwaukee King, again at the sectional semifinal level.

At Louisville, Smith played in 138 games and started 111. He scored 1,203 points and averaged 8.8 points and 3.1 rebounds during his four-year collegiate career.

Smith played five games with the New Jersey Nets during the 2011-12 season and also played professionally in Israel and Germany. Currently, Smith is playing in Turkey.
